Preparing for Winter

Guest post written by my buddy Fidel Hernandez

It is that time of the year again for us to start bundling up in warm clothes and preparing both our homes and our bodies for the cold winter months. There are lots of things that our family does every year in preparation for the winter months. Most of these are not only to keep us warm, but also to save us money on our energy bills!

A few of the things we check off of our list each year are having the chimney cleaned, clearing the gutters of leaves, ensuring that our windows and doors are sealed from the bitter cold outdoor air, and having our furnace serviced. We also routinely switch out the clothes in our closet replacing tank tops, sun dresses and flip flops with sweaters, jeans, and boots. It is quite a daunting task to get our home and our closets ready for winter, but it can be fun when we make it a family activity and dedicate an entire weekend for it.

After all the hard work, our reward is to light a fire in our newly cleaned fireplace, warm up some hot cocoa and popcorn, and relax by the satellite television we got though some satellite tv deals to enjoy a Sunday afternoon movie. All in all, it's worth it to be able to enjoy the winter by doing all the hard work in one weekend. Bring on the cold weather!
