Labor Day Weekend

So, what did you do this last Labor Day weekend?

People celebrates Labor Day in different ways. For parents and kids who are coming back to school this Fall, Labor Day means the last day of summer or summer vacation is over. Most schools starts their classes the day after Labor Day which is Tuesday. For some, Labor Day is all about picnics and family get together.

But according to history, Labor Day is celebrated every first Monday of Sept. every year that celebrates the economic and social contributions of workers. The first big Labor Day in the United States was observed on September 5, 1882, by the Central Labor Union of New York. It was first proposed by Peter J. McGuire of the American Federation of Labor in May 1882, after witnessing the annual labor festival held in Toronto, Canada.

For those who have Labor Day rest after working all year, be thankful to the workers or the unions that made this day a holiday. And for those who had to work this holiday in any circumstances, also be thankful to the labor movement which by laws requires all employers or companys to pay all workers a time-an-a-half for working holidays.
